Jon Lord’s Whitesnake Organ Sound

A little nugget of Hammond information that I read recently is that during Jon Lord’s time in Whitesnake he used his heavily modified C3 fed into 4 Leslie cabs. These were fitted with Gauss 15 inch bass units and the rotating horns fitted with JBL 2440 compression drive units and powered by Amcron DC300A’s via an active crossover.

The 4 cabs were arranged in two stereo pairs with the right hand pair running at a slower speed than the left. For live work these had SM57 mics for close pick up of the left and right highs and lows and, on the mixing desk the left and right lows were panned to the centre and the highs panned left and right.

Just sayin’
